Texas A&M International University's (TAMIU) IBC Bank & Commerce Bank 2025-2026 Keynote Speaker Series will feature award-winning, New York Times journalist and global economics correspondent Peter S. Goodman in a lecture titled "How the World Ran Out of Everything: Inside the Global Supply Chain."

The lecture will be held on Wednesday, April 15 at 6 p.m. in the TAMIU Student Center Ballroom (STC 203). Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The presentation is free and open to the public. It will also be broadcast live via Microsoft Teams. To view online, visit: https://go.tamiu.edu/goodman.

Goodman serves as the global economics correspondent for The New York Times, based in New York. Over the course of more than three decades in journalism, he has covered some of the most significant economic transformations and upheavals, including the global financial crisis of 2008 and the Great Recession, the emergence of China as a global superpower, Brexit, the rise of right-wing populism in Europe, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his presentation, Goodman will take audiences inside the complex global supply chain, exploring the factors that have contributed to its constant vulnerability. He will take the audience deep into this elaborate system, showcasing the triumphs and struggles of the human players who operate it, and the industries most vulnerable to its disruption.

Goodman will explore the factors that will alter the supply chain in the years ahead, from geopolitical realignments—and especially U.S.-China tensions—to climate change and technological innovation. He weaves a powerful argument for reform needed to make manufacturing and transportation systems more reliable and resilient.

Goodman has reported from more than 50 countries, including assignments in conflict zones such as Iraq, Cambodia, Sudan, and East Timor. His work has earned numerous honors, including two Gerald Loeb Awards and multiple recognitions from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers. He was also part of a team named as a Pulitzer Prize finalist for coverage of the 2008 financial crisis.

He is the author of three books, including "How the World Ran Out of Everything: Inside the Global Supply Chain" (HarperCollins, 2024) and the best-selling "Davos Man: How the Billionaires Devoured the World" (HarperCollins, 2022), which was included on NPR's list of Best Books of the Year.

Goodman is a graduate of Reed College and holds a master’s degree in Asian Studies from the University of California at Berkeley. He lives in the Hudson Valley with his wife, the novelist Deanna Fei, and their three children.
