TAMIU to Host First-Ever Fine Arts Festival Oct. 2-4

Music, dance and the visual arts will come together from around the world as Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) readies to host its first-ever Fine Arts Festival, Oct. 2 - 4, at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts.

Presented by TAMIU’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts, the three-day festival will bring together artists, performers, faculty, students and internationally renowned artists and performers.

All festival events are free and open to the public, with the exception of the Folklórico Festival performance, which is a separate ticketed event.

“This festival is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the incredible range of the arts and the many ways they connect us,” said Dr. Fritz Gechter, interim chair of the University’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts. “As an international university in a vibrant border community, TAMIU is proud to bring artists and audiences together through music, dance and visual art from across cultures and around the world.”

Musical offerings include varied and multifaceted programs of solo and chamber performances, lecture recitals, scholarly presentations, and Q&A sessions.

Featured dance performances will be given by current University students and guest artists, as well as the Ballet Folklorico Festival Day, which brings together nine groups from local public schools and community Folklorico dance ensembles. Each group will have a showcase performance culminating in a large collaborative presentation.

The visual arts focus on a diverse range of activities, including workshops, live ceramics demonstrations, printmaking sessions, and other interactive creative activities. There will also be an exclusive show in the art gallery from the current ongoing exhibition.
