Student volunteers from Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and Laredo College (LC) will once again work together to create a lasting impact in their community during this year’s Make a Difference Day, happening Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026.

The National Day of Service will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, with a planned group of some 500+ volunteers. Now in its 17th year, the initiative focuses on improving and beautifying public spaces across Laredo.

This year, TAMIU and LC students, faculty, and staff, will focus on four sites along the Zacate Creek. Planned activities include trash pickup, graffiti cover-up, and beautification projects to care for our local environment and strengthen community connections.

“Through this collaborative effort, we hope to make a lasting, positive impact on our community while encouraging students to take an active role in environmental stewardship and the care of our shared public spaces,” said Priscilla A. Cadena, TAMIU Office of Student Affairs program manager.

This annual event, led by the University’s Office of Student Affairs in collaboration with the University’s Student Government Association Leaders Organizing Volunteer Events

Committee (L.O.V.E.), is made possible through the support of community partners, that include the City of Laredo, Laredo College, LISD Transportation Department, Nature Fresh Farms, Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages, the Rio Grande International Study Center, and H-E-B.

Since 2010, University volunteers have worked on various community-wide projects

benefiting groups such as Habitat for Humanity, Volunteers Serving the Need, the Laredo Animal Care Facility, the Ruthe B. Cowl Rehabilitation Center, and many more. To learn more, visit https://www.tamiu.edu/studentaffairs/madandtbe.shtml
