Acclaimed author Jan Notzon will join Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) students for a moderated conversation about his background, writing process and inspiration behind his written work.

The event is open to the TAMIU community and is happening Monday, Nov. 9, 2026, at 3:20 p.m. in the Academic Innovation Center, room 125.

This special conversation is made possible through the generosity of Sonia and Memo Benavides, longtime TAMIU partners and Laredo philanthropists.

Notzon, is a Laredo native, novelist, playwright, actor and founder of the Laredo Little Theatre. His work explores themes of family, faith, identity and the Texas-Mexico border, including “Only the Dead (Know the End of War),” which follows two Mexican families and one Anglo family amid the turbulent formation of the Mexican and Texas republics, and “The Dogs...Barking,” a coming-of-age story set in a 1950s Texas border town.

Notzon has written seven full-length plays, and a one-act play produced in New York City. His work has also been featured in staged readings and competitions, including, “When Good Men Do Nothing,” a finalist in San Francisco’s Dramarama Competition. His other works include the children’s story, “The Gift of Arbol Ceiba.”

As an actor, Notzon has appeared in television productions including “Matlock,” “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles,” and Hallmark Channel’s, “The Confession.”
