TAMIU Faculty Scholarship Featured in International Literary Journal Dossier
Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) faculty scholarship is featured in a special literary journal dossier prepared by Dr. José Cardona-López, Regents Professor of Spanish, in the May-August 2026 issue of the international Revista de Literatura Mexicana Contemporánea (Encuentro Hispanoamericano).
The dossier includes seven articles written by professors and researchers from TAMIU's College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Humanities. In his presentation, Cardona López writes that the articles are a significant sample of the department's academic research activity.
Cardona-López, authored the dossier's introduction, "Presentación," and contributed the article, "La economía expresiva y el tema de la identidad en Los cachorros (1967), una nouvelle de Mario Vargas Llosa."
The dossier also includes "Coco (2017) en el mercado global: recepción en México y China," by Dr. Irma Cantú, associate professor of Spanish; "Mexico's North: Aridity and Social Critique in Irma Sabina Sepúlveda's Agua de las verdes matas," by Dr. Zachary Hernández, assistant professor, Department of Humanities; "Uneven Development, Romantic Stadialism, and Captain Basil Hall's Hopeful Future for Mexico and South America," by Dr. Adam Kozaczka, associate professor of English; "Espacios de violencia y el sujeto femenino en Habíamos ganado la guerra de Esther Tusquets," by Dr. José Agustín Martínez-Samos, associate professor of Spanish; "Jack London, José Vasconcelos, and the Interpretation of Race in Mexico," by Dr. Nathaniel Racine, assistant professor of English; and "The Genesis of Mormons in Mexico: The 1847 Migration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints," by Donovan Weight, instructional professor of history.
In his presentation, Cardona-López also acknowledged the support of Dr. Claudia San Miguel, provost and vice president for academic affairs; Dr. Marcus Antonius Ynalvez, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Dr. Andrew J. Hazelton, chair of the Department of Humanities; Dr. Asligul Berktay, professor of history; Mika Akikuni, associate director of marketing of the Office of Public Relations, Marketing and Information Services; Ana Clamont, interim director of the Office of Public Relations, Marketing and Information Services; and Daniel Martínez, administrative secretary for the Department of Humanities. Cardona López wrote that the support and work of all of them on this project have been decisive.
Published by Ediciones Eón, the Revista de Literatura Mexicana Contemporánea (Encuentro Hispanoamericano) is an international scholarly journal devoted to contemporary literature. The May-August 2026 issue features the TAMIU dossier as one of its principal scholarly sections.
