First-Time Registration

TAMIU Onsite Registration

TAMIU Onsite Registration is an in-person advising event hosted at various high schools or community venues. During these events, multiple TAMIU student success offices service students and their families prior to their first class day. These events are designed for incoming students to complete any admissions, registration, financial aid, orientation, and/or housing processes. Students are typically invited to these events based on the school or location of the Onsite Registration.

TAMIU Registration Live

TAMIU Registration Live is a virtual advising session and an alternative to Onsite Registration. This alternative registration option allows students to create their TAMIU class schedule with a TAMIU Representative via a virtual environment (i.e., videoconferencing or phone). This arrangement was created amid the COVID-19 pandemic to provide students and families options for registration without compromising on health and safety. Students are encouraged to visit tamiu.as.me during registration periods to participate in Registration Live.

Document Submission Checklist

If you have not done so already, please make arrangements to submit documentation showing proof of your TSI scores in Math, Reading, and/or Writing. Also, please have ready your official or unofficial college transcripts if you have previously (or currently) taken college coursework (e.g., dual-enrollment).

Academic Advising

To register for classes, please schedule an appointment with a Regional Advisor from the Office of Recruitment and School Relations. An advisor will assist you with the registration process for your first semester at TAMIU.

Visit the Univesity's Contact Us page.

Once on the page, you will see an interactive Texas map. Simply select your area on the map and your advisor’s contact information will appear.

Yes, you can change your major prior to (or during) class registration. Please complete the University's Request for Change of Admission form to update your major.

If you decide to change your major after you have already registered for classes, please make arrangements to visit with an advisor to review your class schedule as some courses may need to change.

Yes. However, professor preferences depend largely on their availability and your required courses based on your degree program. At times, degree program requirements may supersede professor selection.

We recommend taking courses that are considered Core Curriculum courses. Students can find details in Appendix A of the University's catalog.

College courses taken through an early college program in high school are generally courses needed to satisfy Core Curriculum courses (Please see Appendix A of the University's catalog.). Applicability of courses will be dependent on your declared major at TAMIU.

Learning communities are groups of classes designed to place a freshmen student with other students pursuing the same (or similar) field of study. These classes include a University Seminar class and one or more other core curriculum classes that are paired together.

No. Courses in a learning community are combined as one entity. They cannot be mixed or removed. Learning communities are designed to be taken together as a group of classes.

Post-Registration

Save the date for New Student Orientation! Orientation will discuss topics regarding financial aid, housing, and major requirements. Plus, it provides a better look at what to expect as an official Dustdevil!

Please visit the University's Academic Calendar to view first class dates for each semester.

Accessing your schedule is fast and easy. First login to your Uconnect account and select the My Records Icon. This will open a new tab where you can click on "Registration". Thereafter, a new tab will open with the Scheduler extension, and you will be prompted to select a term. Once you have selected a term, click save and continue. On the new tab, click on "Current Schedule" located at the top, left-hand side. This will enable you to view the schedule for the term you selected.

Using TAMIU Scheduler, you can view the time, day, and even the building your classes are located.

First, login to your Uconnect account and click on the TAMIU Bookstore icon. Once you do so, type your TAMIU ID number that starts with the letter A. This will prompt a new window to select the desired term.

Thereafter, the textbook information for your classes will then appear.

Student Aid

Financial aid verification is the method used to confirm that the information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is accurate. Verification is used to ensure your financial aid information is correct to create a financial aid package based on your needs and economic background.

To find out your tuition and fees balance, please login to your Uconnect account. Under the ‘Pay my bill’ tab, you will see your tuition and fees total balance.

Tip: subtract any grant, scholarship and/or loan you accepted from your tuition and fees total. This total is your balance. If your grant, scholarship and/or loan total is more than your tuition and fees total, then the remainder will be your refund.

Financial aid refunds are processed after the academic calendar census date. This means the 12th class day of Spring and Fall semesters and after the 4th class day of Summer sessions I and II.

We encourage students to login to their UConnect account, and select the "Make a Refund Choice" icon to make a decision regarding their financial aid refund.

New Student Orientation

New student orientation is a mandatory event in which incoming students learn more about the TAMIU campus, culture and community. We offer three types of orientations for incoming freshmen, transfer students, and international students. The dates for each respective new student orientation are found on the University's Office of Student Orientation, Leadership, and Engagement (SOLE) Orientation page.
