More on USTEM

TAMIU-USTEM Program will provide incoming freshman participants the opportunity to engage in 4-semesters of STEM-enrichment activities.

The USTEM program accepted its first cohort of students in July 2021, its second cohort of students in June 2022, and most recently, its third cohort of students in July 2023. The first two cohorts completed the program after one year. The third cohort of USTEM students will complete the program in July of 2024.

more on what it means to be in USTEM:

Students interested in applying must be mindful that they will be both a USTEM participant and a research subject IF SELECTED. The selection process will be randomized. This means that even though an applicant meets all criteria, there is a possibility that he/she will not get selected. Additionally, applicants must be:

  • accepted at TAMIU as a freshman
  • able to attend a 4-week summer camp at TAMIU during the month of July
  • declared a STEM major
  • commit to enroll in 12 credit hours every semester for the duration of the program (fall and spring)

A consent/contract form will need to be signed and uploaded as part of the application.

Once you complete your application, expect a call/email from a USTEM representative within 5 business days to give you more details.

If you have any questions or need help with the application, please feel free to contact our Program Manager, Leonela Preciado, at 956.26.2464 or email us at ustem@tamiu.edu
