SPAN 4312

History of the Spanish Language

Three semester hours. (SS)

Conducted in Spanish. This course is an introduction to the history and development of the Spanish language from its origins to the present day. Topics may include: Spanish in relation to Latin and other Romance languages; basic principles of language change; analysis of the stages of the evolution of Spanish since the Ancient Latin period taking into account influences of other cultures and languages; and analysis of American Spanish and Peninsular Spanish. Prerequisite: SPAN 3300 and 3310 or consent of instructor.
