TAMU Regents Professor of Spanish American Literature.
Coordinator of the Creative Writing Minor (English/Spanish)

In 2018 Dr. Cardona-López was named Regent Professor by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents. In 2015 he received the Laurel Trilce de Oro award, Santiago de Chuco (Perú). In 2005 and 2013, he was recognized as Scholar of the year by the College of Arts and Sciences. In conjunction with scholars from Sorbonne Université (Paris) and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Mexico City), he has participated in developing projects to study the nouvelle or short novel as an autonomous and specific literary form. From 2003 to 2011, he was an invited faculty for the Summer Spanish School, Middlebury College. He is a Contributing Editor for the Handbook of Latin American Studies (Library of Congress). Some of his articles, essays, and short stories have been translated into English, Portuguese, and Romanian. Selections of his fiction work are included in several anthologies and book texts published abroad and in the USA.

Education: Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Kentucky; MA in Spanish from the University of Louisville; BA in Agronomical Engineering from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Palmira.

Teaching: 20th Century and Contemporary Spanish American Literature, and Creative Writing.

Research interest: Spanish American narrative (emphasis on short novel or nouvelle) and poetry.
