Student Notetakers & Note-taking Volunteers
Some students may require assistance obtaining materials presented in class because of limitations resulting from their disability. For most students with disabilities these accommodations are meant to supplement the student’s own notes. Examples of students that may require these accommodations are students with learning disabilities or physical impairments such as Deaf students or students that are hard of hearing and completely rely on note takers since they are unable to watch their Sign Language interpreter and take notes at the same time.
Making a Request for a Student Notetaker
Students that have been approved for peer note-taking as an accommodation should request student notetakers as early as possible. Once a request is received, the Office of Disability Services for Students will then begin recruiting student notetakers for the course(s) requested. Once a Volunteer Notetaker is identified, the notes will be accessed through AIM.
Be sure to contact the Office of Disability Services for Students if you have any questions or concerns about requesting a student notetaker.
Volunteering to Serve as a Student Notetaker
As notetaker requests are received the Office of Disability Services for Students Staff will reach out to the students currently enrolled for the course(s) requested to recruit a Student Notetaker. Student Notetakers are expected to attend class, take lecture notes, and share the notes no later than the next class meeting day. Student Notetakers will earn Community Hours based on the number of hours spent in class via the notes submitted through AIM, earn up to $50 Dusty Dollars that can be spent anywhere in campus and a certificate as proof of their Community Service at the end of the each semester. Notes can be shared by, uploading Word documents, PDFs, or photos of handwritten notes.
