Michael Gonzalez

Texas A&M International University Small Business Development Center (TAMIU SBDC) will host a succession planning event for business owners Wednesday, March 27 from 1-5 p.m. at the BBVA Compass Plaza Building, 10th floor, on 600 San Bernardo Ave.

The event, titled, "Successful Succession: Preparing for the Future," will be a seminar about small business succession planning with an emphasis on an innovative new option: employee cooperatives. Attorney Andrea Beleno-Harrington, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid C-Bar program representative, will be the featured speaker at the event. Event registration fee is $25. Seating is limited.

The seminar provides critical information for business owners who want to learn how to plan their business succession.

“All business owners must transition their business eventually and to begin planning to do so is paramount,” said Michael González, TAMIU SBDC director, “Those who may not be transitioning their business to an heir or family member but who are attempting to sell the business but are not receiving viable offers, should strongly consider the innovative option of employee cooperative conversions. We, at the TAMIU SBDC, are excited to be at the forefront of the discussion of this innovative option."

The seminar will also include a presentation by Cindy Solano, lead Lender Relations specialist for the Small Business Administration San Antonio District office.

BBVA Compass is sponsoring the event. Ample parking will be available at the BBVA Compass parking garage and refreshments will be served.

Those interested may register by visiting the TAMIU SBDC website, www.sbdc.tamiu.edu or call the TAMIU SDBC offices at 956.326.2827.

University office hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
