Military Appreciation BBQ and Car Show Awards Local Veteran with a Housing Unit March 28

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Athletics is hosting its third annual Military Appreciation BBQ and Car Show Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Dustdevils Athletic Field.

Admission is free of charge and open to the public.

The event includes activities for the entire family, such as TAMIU Dustdevil Baseball and Softball games, a car show by Laredo Modern Mopar, dance performances, and pre-game ceremonies honoring Iraqi and Afghanistan war veterans.

Throughout the event, Laredo’s Brothers in Smoke will have BBQ plates for sale, which includes a smoked brisket sandwich with chips and a drink for $7.  Also, a beer tent will be on-site and provided by L&F Distributors.

Tickets are currently on sale for two raffles happening that same day. The first raffle includes winning prizes like a Green Mountain Grill Pellet Smoker, a Rustic Iron Grill and a Cooler. The second raffle is for a Derksen Micro Shell Home. The winning Home ticket includes a free tow of the unit up to 50 miles from campus. Raffle winners can also choose to donate the home to a local veteran.

Raffle tickets are $10 and $20, respectively.

Collected raffle proceeds will benefit the VFW Post 9194 - Vets Housing Project, which helps local veterans. During the event, a housing unit will be given to a local veteran. The structure will be on display at the event.
