TAMIU Student-Athletes Celebrate Return to Classes at Back to School Bash this Saturday

Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) student-athletes will celebrate the start of the new academic year with a Back to School Bash happening Saturday, Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Outlet Shoppes at Laredo, located at 1600 Water St.
The event is free and open to the public.
During the event, student-athletes from the TAMIU Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Volleyball and Spirit teams will be on hand for meet-and-greet activities. Also joining student-athletes will be University mascot, Dusty the Dustdevil.
The opportunity to engage with students and families in the community is an important part of the University’s mission, said Juan Gilberto García, Jr., vice president for Enrollment Management.
“We’re excited to be part of this Back to School Bash and to celebrate the start of another school year alongside our community. TAMIU is proud to be more than a place of learning. We are a part of the community we serve, and opportunities like this allow us to connect with families, support local students and share in the excitement of a new school year,” García affirmed.
For University student-athletes, being part of the community extends beyond the field and court.
“Our student-athletes don't just represent TAMIU, they represent Laredo every time they compete," said Henry Miller, interim director of Athletics and director of Athletics Compliance.
Miller emphasized, "The Back to School Bash is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to meet the community, connect with local families and share what it means to be a Dustdevil. We're proud to call Laredo home, and we look forward to another great year together."
At the event, attendees can pick up free backpacks, school supplies, giveaways and more. Hosted by Radio United, the Back to School Bash brings together community partners for a day of free, family-friendly activities. In 2025, over 6,000 attendees participated in the annual Back to School Bash.
The excitement of a new school year also means the return of Dustdevil Athletics. With the fall season just around the corner, fans can get ready to support their teams and show their Dustdevil pride.
