Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) Office of Student Conduct and Community Engagement held Make A Difference Day delivering 220 letters to residents at the Hamilton Senior Community Apartments.

This year, student volunteers participated in the annual community service event by writing letters of encouragement through a University-wide letter-writing campaign.

Organized by the Leaders Organizing Volunteering Events, or L.O.V.E. Committee, the project helped build a bridge between students and the residents at the Hamilton Senior Community Apartments, said Bianay Ramírez, L.O.V.E Committee president.

“It is through events like these that students and the community have the opportunity to connect and build a stronger bond. Furthermore, TAMIU students have the opportunity to experience first-hand the difficulties that our community faces and partake in initiatives to help solve those difficulties,” said Ramírez.

This is the eleventh year TAMIU has celebrated Make A Difference Day, and this year’s event was adjusted to follow social distancing guidelines.

Since 2010, TAMIU students have worked on various community-wide projects benefiting groups such as Habitat for Humanity, Volunteers Serving the Need, the Laredo Animal Care Facility, the Azteca Neighborhood, Ruthe B. Cowl and many more.
