This Fall, Texas A&M International University's (TAMIU) Office of Continuing Education will offer exciting new courses delivered in a face-to-face format for those in the community who wish to enrich their knowledge, gain new skillsets or delve into the world of art.

The courses are offered to the public and participants do not need to be registered as degree-seeking TAMIU students.

One of the courses, "Ceramics," led by Emily Bayless, TAMIU assistant professor of Arts, will be offered on Tuesdays, from  Sept. 7 - Dec. 7, from 6-8 p.m. In this 14-week course, participants will cover the foundations of basic hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. The course is $400 per person.

From Oct. 4 - Dec. 13, from  6-7:30 p.m., instructor Marco Antonio Coronado will present an "American Sign Language for Beginners" (ASL) class. The course will start with numbers and letters and by the end of the course, students will engage in basic conversation. Proper signing techniques will be covered throughout the class. The course is $325 per person.

For those already familiar with American Sign Language, Coronado will teach  the course, "American Sign Language Part II" from Oct. 6 - Dec. 15, between 6-7:30 p.m. The course will enhance and build on skills learned in Beginner's ASL and is $325 per person.

Another course, "Intensive Drawing" will be offered from Dec 13 - 17, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. (with an hour lunch break from 1-2 p.m.). Led by Josias Figueirido, TAMIU assistant professor of Arts, the one-week course is designed for advanced students and consists of five days of intensive drawing that challenges students to engage deeply with diverse contemporary drawing topics.

Students will make multiple drawings of different subjects in different locations, both inside the studio and around, in order to gather visual information to be arranged into a single large drawing. The "Intensive Drawing" course is $400 per person.

Aside from courses offered face-to face, the Office of Continuing Education offers hundreds of courses online that range in interest level from career track training programs to skills, enrichment and fundamentals courses.
