As the Fall semester readies to start at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), the College of Arts and Sciences, department of Psychology and Communication has learned its popular graduate program in Counseling Psychology has been reaccredited through January 2028.

News of the reaccreditation of the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (MACP) was relayed by Dr. Jane Stafford, chair of the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC).

“MPCAC has voted to extend accreditation for a 10-year period…Members of the Council were impressed with your careful responses to the stipulations…  We are delighted to support your path toward academic excellence,” Dr.  Stafford wrote Dr. Ediza Arcía, TAMIU associate professor and director of the Program.

Dr. Arcía said she believes the program’s reaccreditation is reflective of its exceptional nature.

“I am overjoyed and proud. I believe this speaks to the high caliber of education and training we provide our students. I am especially appreciative of the MACP faculty, Drs. Adriana Blasco-Rubio, Elizabeth Terrazas-Carrillo, and Desi Vásquez, for their help during the reaccreditation process,” Dr. Arcía, observed.

TAMIU dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Claudia San Miguel, concurred.

“This is an exceptional program delivered by a gifted faculty. Our students are conducting important collaborative research, present at regional and national conferences, and graduates continue on to doctoral programs. They are prepared for truly meaningful careers.  They are impacting the well-being of the communities they serve.

“We are tremendously proud of Dr. Arcía, and her MACP faculty for this extraordinary recognition of the program.  As we welcome students back to our Fall semester, great news like this only affirms the exceptional education we provide our students and the importance of our mission delivery,” Dr. San Miguel concluded.
