Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) will honor four outstanding professional women during a special panel discussion observing International Women's Day Wednesday, March 8 from 11 a.m  - 12:30 p.m. in Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 111.

The panel is free and open to the public.

It is organized by the TAMIU Office of Global Initiatives/Binational Center to recognize successful professional women from the South Texas region and to inspire younger generations of women in the pursuit of their goals and career paths, said María Eugenia Calderón-Porter, TAMIU assistant vice president, Office of Global Initiatives/Binational Center.

This year's honorees and panelists are leaders representing four professional areas including Education, International Business, Law and Healthcare.

2023 honorees and the professional areas they represent are: Dr. Minita Ramírez, Laredo College president (Education); Yolanda Malagón, former president of Asociación de Agentes Aduanales de Nuevo Laredo (The Association of Custom Brokers of Nuevo Laredo) (International Business); Adriana Piñón, legal director, American Civil Liberties Union of Texas (Law); and Dr. Grace Snyder, transplant nephrologist (Healthcare).

Officially recognized by the United Nations in 1977, International Women's Day first emerged from the activities of labor movements at the turn of the 20th Century in North America and across Europe. Celebrated globally, it is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.

The Office of Global Initiatives/Binational Center enhances relationships between TAMIU and the global community by promoting civic and social organizations and institutions through research, education, leadership, and public service. The Binational Center is a member of the World Affairs Councils of America, the largest national non-partisan network of almost 100 councils in over 40 states that are dedicated to educating and engaging Americans about the critical global issues of our times.
