Now in its 10th year, “Discover TAMIU,” a day of fun, free activities for the entire family, happened Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event was open to the community.

TAMIU set up a dedicated website sharing its extensive inventory of fun events at http://www.tamiu.edu/discovertamiu/. The website included a search capability that assisted eventgoers in finding their favorite activities.

Some 170 activities were planned throughout the 300-acre campus. Event highlights included face painting, slime activities, D.I.Y. bracelets, a fish tank tour, make-your-own piggy banks, create-your-own lava lamp, a DustyTRON robotics demonstration, Loteria and so much more.

A live silkscreen printing activity promoted the sustainability mission of the University’s Rhizome project. The live printing event helped promote the upcoming Rhizome performance happening Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m. outside the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. For more information on Rhizome, visit go.tamiu.edu/rhizome.

The event also included free showings at the Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium. The University’s Mariachi Internacional, TAMIU Cheer & Dance group, student choreographers, and community groups performed music and dance sequences.

Discover TAMIU follows five distinct, segmented ‘Pathways’ that attendees could explore, including dedicated activities such as Artistic Avenue, Business Boulevard, the International U, Scientific Journey, and Spirited Speedway.

For more information on future offerings of Discover TAMIU, contact TAMIU’s Office of Outreach and Pre-college Programs at 956.326.2700, email discover@tamiu.edu, or visit offices in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center, room 222.

Registration for Maymester, Summer, and Fall at TAMIU is underway.

University information can also be found on its social media channels, such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube.
