Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) A. R. Sanchez, Jr.  School of Business' Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development (Texas Center) marked a milestone in cross-border economic relations by hosting the Confederación de Cámaras Industriales de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos (CONCAMIN) Board of Directors for their first board meeting held outside of México in the organization's 107-year history.

CONCAMIN is México’s leading industrial chamber confederation, representing 106 chambers and associations across various industrial sectors.

The meeting brought together prominent industrial and business leaders from México and the United States, underscoring the TAMIU’s role as a hub for binational economic dialogue.

Dr. Daniel Covarrubias, Director of the Texas Center, welcomed the distinguished guests and delivered a keynote presentation titled, "Reimagining North American Economic Integration toward USMCA 2.0."

"This gathering at TAMIU continues to highlight the University's significant role in strengthening cross-border economic ties," said Dr. Covarrubias, "As we approach the 2026 USMCA review, the Texas Center continues to position itself as a key reference point in shaping dialog to continue transforming North American integration through more effective industrial coordination and cooperation."

In his presentation, Covarrubias emphasized the interconnected nature of North American economies.

"North America's economic regions are inextricably linked, and disruption in one country creates immediate cascade effects in others," he said.

Covarrubias outlined a framework for advancing regional integration through enhanced security cooperation, technological innovation, and trilateral industrial policy. Key proposals included the creation of a Binational Customs Agency and a North American Industrial Coordination Council.

The CONCAMIN delegation was led by Alejandro Malagón Barragán, CONCAMIN president. Other attendees included Miguel Ángel Martínez Millán, president of the Camara Nacional del Autotransporte de Carga (CANACAR), Eduardo Ramírez Leal, CONCAMIN secretary general, and Miguel Cos Nesbitt, president of the Confederación de Asociaciones de Agentes Aduanales de la República Mexicana (CAAAREM). Additional participants included Texas Center Advisory Board members and other industry leaders.

The session also featured presentations by CONCAMIN commissions and a virtual address by Quiahuitl Chávez Domínguez, México's Undersecretary of Employment and Labor Productivity, who shared updates on workforce development programs.

The board meeting was part of a three-day agenda for CONCAMIN in Laredo that included a welcome reception, working sessions, and a guided tour of the World Trade Bridge.
