Undergraduate students interested in gaining research experience (and getting paid), will now have an added opportunity to do so thanks to an experiential learning initiative available at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU).

Budding researchers can now apply to become a Student Research Assistant (SRA). Through their work, SRAs will engage in authentic research experiences by assisting TAMIU faculty with their research projects or tasks.

Students can apply now via Workday at https://tamus.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/TAMIU_Student_Employment/job/Student-Research-Assistant--QEP-_R-086609-1

SRAs work up to 15 hours a week for 10 weeks. Positions are limited and fulfilled on a competitive basis. Applicants must be enrolled in at least six credit hours and have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0. The opportunity is open to TAMIU students of all majors.

As part of the application process, students must obtain a letter of recommendation from a faculty member that outlines their research project and duties as a student research assistant.

Applications will close Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, or before if positions are filled.

The innovative opportunity is made possible through LEARN, or Learning Experientially: Active Real-World Navigation, the University’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), which focuses on enhancing experiential learning opportunities to foster career readiness in undergraduate students.

Cihtlalli Pérez, the University’s QEP director, notes the importance of the initiative and its benefits for students interested in hands-on learning.

“The SRA position aims to provide students with research hands-on learning to enhance their professional and personal development. Students will be working on faculty-led projects that have both academic and social impact. SRAs will assist a faculty member in carrying out the faculty’s particular research project and support their work through quantitative and qualitative research and analysis, performing literature reviews, assisting with surveys, and other research tasks,” said Pérez.

Ultimately, students will present on their learning experiences during an upcoming LEARN Expo happening this November 2025.

LEARN is part of the University’s accreditation process and serves as a campus-wide initiative aimed at supporting student success. For more information on the University’s QEP, contact Pérez at CihtlalliG.Perez@tamiu.edu, call 956.326.2714 or visit go.tamiu.edu/qep
