TAMIU Learn

As part of the accreditation process through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) topic is selected to enhance student success.

TAMIU's QEP, LEARN (Learning Experientially: Active Real-world Navigation), will transform undergraduate education by expanding experiential learning (EL) opportunities that foster career readiness through knowledge and skills, as well as application to real-world contexts.

Through reflection, students will critically examine their EL experience and how it connects to their learning and skills.

Experiential learning, which is commonly known as "learning by doing" or "hands-on learning" can empower students with skills, knowledge, and experiences needed to thrive academically and professionally. Three specific curricular EL experiences will be targeted which include:

Internships

Internships offer students real-world experience to apply their knowledge and transfer learned skills with direct supervision by professionals in their field.

Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate research impacts students’ academic self-concept, depth of disciplinary understanding, strong faculty-student relationship, and expansion of access to professional opportunities

Service-Learning

Service-learning classes and projects meet identified community needs and provide students with the opportunity to reflect on their discipline and civic responsibility.

Co-Curricular Experiences

Students who participate in select co-curricular experiences also have the opportunity to reflect on how these learning experiences enhance their learning.
