TAMIU Faculty Member Recognized by the American Educational Research Association

A Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) faculty member has recently been recognized by the American Educational Research Association (AERA).
Dr. Cynthia A. Gallardo, assistant professor of Educational Administration at TAMIU, has received Honorable Mention for the 2026 Emerging Scholar from AERA’s Division A (Administration, Organization, & Leadership). The Division A Emerging Scholar initiative recognizes emerging scholars whose research demonstrates promise and meaningful contribution to educational leadership.
“I am deeply grateful to AERA Division A for this Honorable Mention recognition. I am thankful to Texas A&M International University, the College of Education, and our Educational Administration program for the collaborative environment that supports this work,” said Gallardo.
“I am also grateful for the guidance of mentors at the institutional, state, and national levels whose insight and support have shaped my growth as a scholar. This honor reflects a shared commitment to strengthening educational leadership preparation through thoughtful research, meaningful mentorship, and practice-informed scholarship,” Gallardo expressed.
Gallardo’s scholarship focuses on instructional leadership, principal preparation, and dual enrollment pathways. Her work examines how leadership practices, policy implementation, and instructional contexts shape student outcomes and leadership effectiveness.
Currently, she serves as Principal Investigator for a University Research Development Award-funded study examining stakeholder experiences in dual enrollment programs. She also previously served as Co-Principal Investigator on a funded institutional Presidential Research Development Award focused on addressing the principal shortage, and as Senior Personnel on a National Science Foundation Improving Undergraduate STEM Education project designed to strengthen early STEM success pathways.
Gallardo regularly presents her scholarship at national and international venues, including AERA, the University Council for Educational Administration and the International Council of Professors in Educational Leadership conferences.
Her peer-reviewed scholarship appears in journals such as Journal of School Leadership, School Leadership Review, Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership, The Urban Review and Texas Educator Preparation. She has authored multiple scholarly book chapters and serves as Associate Editor for the Advancing Women in Leadership journal and as Co-Associate Editor for the AERA Division A Newsletter.
She is also an alumna of the Harvard Graduate School of Education Women in Higher Education Leadership Program and was recognized in 2025 as the first-ever recipient of the James Berry Emerging Scholar Award from the International Council of Professors in Educational Leadership.
Founded in 1916, AERA advances educational research and its application to improve practice. AERA includes 12 divisions and more than 150 special interest groups representing diverse areas of educational scholarship.
