TAMIU Faculty Member Elected to Executive Board of Nation’s Oldest Educational Leadership Organization

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Assistant Professor of Educational Administration, Dr. Cynthia Angélica Gallardo, has been elected to the Executive Board of the International Council of Professors of Educational Leadership (ICPEL), the oldest organization in the United States representing professors of educational leadership.
Established in 1947 as the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration, ICPEL has served for nearly eight decades as a national leader in advancing educational leadership through scholarship, professional collaboration, and service. The organization supports professors of educational leadership and practicing school leaders while working to strengthen schools, institutions, and communities and amplify historically underrepresented voices.
Gallardo will serve a three-year term on the Executive Board. In this role, she will contribute to the organization’s strategic leadership and governance while collaborating with educational leadership faculty nationwide to advance ICPEL’s mission and the future of the profession.
“I am deeply honored to serve on the ICPEL Executive Board and represent Texas A&M International University at the national level,” Gallardo said. “I look forward to working alongside colleagues across the country to strengthen educational leadership, support faculty and practitioners, and contribute to the continued advancement of our profession.”
Gallardo also expressed her appreciation for those who have supported her professional journey.
“I wish to thank my colleagues and peers within ICPEL for placing their trust and confidence in me through this election. I am also grateful to TAMIU, the TAMIU College of Education, my colleagues, peers, mentors, and students.”
At TAMIU, Gallardo prepares aspiring school leaders and conducts research focused on principal preparation, instructional leadership, dual enrollment, educational policy, and STEM learning.
Gallardo completed the inaugural Women in Higher Education Leadership program and the Mental Health in Higher Education: A Theory-to-Practice Approach for Student Well-Being program with the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Her scholarship has appeared in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Leadership and Policy in Schools, The Urban Review, Journal of Latinos and Education, Journal of School Leadership, Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership, Texas Educator Preparation, and School Leadership Review. She has also published scholarly book chapters addressing educational leadership and the development of academic scholarship.
Gallardo also holds several national and state leadership roles, including positions with the American Educational Research Association (AERA), University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA), and Texas Council of Professors of Educational Administration (TCPEA).
Her professional contributions have been recognized through the first-ever (inaugural) 2025 ICPEL James Berry Emerging Scholar Award and Honorable Mention for the 2026 American Educational Research Association Division a Emerging Scholar Award.
Through her scholarship, teaching, mentorship, and professional service, Gallardo continues to advance educational leadership and prepare future school leaders.
