TAMIU Alumni Association Awards 12 Student Scholarships, Installs New Board Leadership
Texas A&M International University's (TAMIU) Alumni Association began the Fall semester by putting its mission into action. Twelve scholarships were awarded and distributed to currently enrolled Dustdevils during the August Alumni Board Induction and Scholarship Award Ceremony held on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026.
This year's TAMIU Alumni Association Scholarship recipients were Francisco Aceves-Sapunar, Muhammed Bilal Ali, Eduardo Arroyo, Adrian Beltran, Arturo Bonnet-Escobedo, Olivia Bugros, Jesus Calderon, Axel Camacho Berriel, Valeria Castillo Villela, Saurab Neupane, Sanjeep Niraula, and Juan Pérez De Vargas Martin.
This year's awards followed the induction of the Alumni Association's board of directors for the new term. Continuing their service on the board in new roles are Jorge “Gino” Quijano ('09), past president; David Kash Vasquez ('03), president; Luis Sánchez ('20, '21), president-elect; and Armando Covarrubias ('17, '26), vice president. Joining the board are Renee Ambrose ('19) as parliamentarian and Nydia Perales ('19) as public relations officer. Retaining their positions are Sandra González ('17) as treasurer and Christy Rangel-Bryand ('99) as secretary.
The Alumni Association supports the University's mission by inspiring alums to give back in time, talent, or treasure. The Alumni Association hosts various events throughout the year in tandem with the University's Office of Institutional Advancement.
Since 2006, the University's Alumni Association has awarded 128 individual scholarships totaling $140,000 in funds to deserving graduate and undergraduate students.
The University awarded scholarships to undergraduate students pursuing degrees at the University. Students applied for the Alumni Association Scholarship and Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship via TAMIU Fund$Finder, an interactive search tool that helps students locate relevant scholarship opportunities.
To receive the scholarship, students must meet the University's scholarship criteria, be enrolled full-time, and hold an overall GPA between 2.0 - 4.0. Eligible students must also meet federal guidelines for financial need.
