TAMIU Earns Bronze Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award from Texas Veterans Commission

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has been awarded the Bronze Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award by the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC), marking the first time in University history that TAMIU has earned this distinction.
The recognition honors institutions that demonstrate a strong commitment to providing exceptional educational services, resources and support to veterans and members of the military-connected community.
“This recognition is an important milestone for TAMIU and reflects our commitment to ensuring that veterans and military-connected students have the support they need to succeed,” said University President Dr. Christopher Maynard. “We are proud to be recognized for this work and grateful to everyone across the University who contributes to creating an environment where our veterans can thrive.”
A key leader in the University’s pursuit of this recognition was University Registrar Triana Valdez, who directly oversees the Office of Veterans Affairs (OVA). Through her leadership, collaboration and commitment to serving the military-connected community, Valdez helped guide the University through the process of pursuing the recognition.
“Triana’s leadership has been instrumental in achieving this distinction,” said Vice President of Enrollment Management Juan García. “Her dedication to our veterans and military-connected students, along with the hard work of the Veterans Affairs team, demonstrates the level of service and commitment that TAMIU strives to provide every day.”
OVA works with veteran and military-connected students to help them navigate the educational benefits and resources available to them while pursuing their academic goals. The OVA serves as an important resource in helping students understand and access their benefits and successfully transition into and through their university experience.
The Bronze Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award represents a significant achievement and reinforces the University’s commitment to serving those who have served our country.
“This award belongs to the entire campus community,” Valdez said. “It reflects the dedication of our team and the University’s ongoing commitment to supporting our veterans and military-connected students. We are honored to receive this recognition for the first time in TAMIU’s history.”
