Good Afternoon!

Here's your amended Trailblazer Weekly Bulletin for Monday,

September 15, 2025. (Apologies for resend).

*MobFest was the place to be Friday. Before gametime, visitors enjoyed visiting booths featuring crafts, desserts, merchandise, and services. The spirit came alive thereafter with Dustdevil Men's Soccer taking on the University of Jamestown Jimmies and earning a 3-1 victory. The victories continued Sunday with a decisive 6-0 win over the Adams State Grizzlies.

*Also on the athletics front, kudos to Ian Rono of our Men's Cross-Country team, who broke the TAMIU school record in the 4-mile at the University of the Incarnate Word Invitational. He won the individual race with a time of 18:45, setting a new TAMIU record.

*Congratulations to our Dr. Gilda Y. Martínez, College of Education assistant professor, for her leadership in Saturday's presentation here of the 4th Annual Unidos Para Texas Education Conference. The Conference brought together advocates, educators, and researchers committed to advancing quality education for all students.

*This Week: It's Coffeehouse Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in STC 114 as our Career Café welcomes TAMIU alum and City of Laredo Fire Chief Guillermo Heard. He's dedicated 24+ years to the City of Laredo. He's also a Family Nurse Practitioner and serves as the City's Emergency Management Coordinator. Find out more.

*On Thursday, head to the Student Center Rotunda from 10 a.m. to noon as the QEP Program presents "LEARN How to Garden in a Glove." Take home a green friend. Dig in for details.

*It's time to meet our Sole Finalist for President of TAMIU, Dr. Christopher Maynard. We're hosting a reception for students, faculty, and staff this THURSDAY afternoon, details at Trailblazer link. Stop on by!

*Also Thursday, from 1 - 3 p.m. in the Student Center Theater, watch a film screening and Q&A session,"Film by Film: A South Texas Filmmaker's Story," with award-winning filmmaker and Texas native Sharon Arteaga. This event presented by the Laredo Film Society and TAMIU.

*Set a Reminder for next Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the CFPA Recital Hall as we welcome the Palmetto Saxophone Quartet Recital for a free performance.

*Our City of Laredo Tennis Complex at TAMIU, in addition to being recognized as one of the nation's Outstanding Facilities by the U.S. Tennis Association, is now hosting College Night every Tuesday from 7 - 8:45 p.m. for enrolled students, free of charge. You can practice and socialize at the same time!

*While the new concrete lanes were completed this weekend, as the concrete cures over the next few days, continue to exercise caution and patience with loop construction at our University Boulevard Entrance. From the South, use Entrance 3. From the north, the Loop or Casa Verde. Anticipate delays, slow down, exercise caution, and be prepared for sudden stops. The new lanes should open very soon.

Always remember to make the most of your formal education and your lifelong education thereafter, for as musician B.B. King has noted, "The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you."

Let's Go Dustdevils!

Juan J. Castillo,

Interim President
