HAPPY MONDAY DUSTDEVILS!

Thanks to all for your participation in and enthusiasm for our traditional Earth Day Celebration last week.  Here’s hoping we all take the importance of environmental stewardship to heart...and that the olive tree many students received will grow robust and tall!

 

TAMIU’s Spirit Program made BIG waves at one of the biggest and most prestigious national collegiate cheer and dance competitions, the NCA/NDA Collegiate Nationals held in Daytona Beach, FL.  TAMIU Cheer earned a fifth-place national finish, a historic first in the All-Girl Division, and TAMIU Dance also made program history, placing second in the nation in Dance Performance!  Congrats to the teams and Head Cheer Coach Celina FloresFind out more.

A group of 10 TAMIU undergraduate chemistry and biology majors attended the American Chemical Society Spring 2025 National Meeting held in San Diego, CA. Seven students presented original research during the Undergraduate Research Poster Session and six student leaders delivered an oral presentation on ACS Student Chapter achievements.  Learn more.

 

THIS WEEK:

A new two-person art exhibition, “Riddles of the Ground,” will be celebrated with an opening reception tomorrow Tuesday, April 29 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Gallery.  Riddles of the Ground features the works of Sandra Amoabeng and Emily Rice, TAMIU art faculty members. Coffeehouse Wednesday takes place at 10:30 a.m. in STC 114 and features guest presenter Luis Castro, MBA ’99 and Managing Director, Deloitte & Touche, LLP.

Also Wednesday, check out the beats at the Percussion Ensemble Concert at 7:30 p.m. in the CFPA Recital Hall.

COMING UP:

The College of Arts and Sciences hosts an engaging lecture by Dr. William Kiser, Texas A&M University-San Antonio professor and chair of the department of History Wednesday, from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. in Western Hemispheric Trade Center, room 111.  His lecture will focus on warfare against Indians in American History.

Finals begin Tuesday, May 6. Check out your exam schedule here.

TAMIU will present "Cine de la Frontera," a graduate student-led film screening exploring culture, identity, and storytelling Monday, May 12 at 6 p.m. at the Alamo Drafthouse.

 

DUSTDEVIL ATHLETICS:

Our Dustdevil Softball Team finished their season this weekend in doubleheader play against the St. Mary’s University Rattlers in San Antonio. Congratulations to our team for an impressive and passionate season!   Read game recap here.

Also finishing their season was our Dustdevil Baseball Team in final play against the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds with a series win, taking three of four games.  Congratulations for a dedicated and strong season!  Game recap here.

REMINDER:

Early Voting for the City of Laredo Bond Election is underway.  Bond elections are an opportunity for residents to vote on the City issuing bonds to fund major projects, including healthcare, senior housing, and police and fire departments. See a Sample Ballot and  Find out more.   On Bond Election Day Saturday, May 3, you can exercise your right to vote at University Village.

 

As we welcome the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals to campus, I leave you with this quote from Aristotle, “At his best, man is the noblest of all animals; separated from law and justice he is the worst.”
