Community care summit:
nursing roles in countering human trafficking
The TAMIU Center to Counter Human Trafficking (TAMIU CCHT) is collaborating with the Dr. F.M. Canseco School of Nursing to train undergraduate nurses.
On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, we will host a Human Trafficking & Nursing Opportunities Summit from 12 – 5 P.M. in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center, Room 116.
This summit will equip future nurses with practical tools to recognize and respond to human trafficking. The training will cover trafficking indicators, trauma-informed care skills, and mixed reality simulations that allow participants to practice real-world scenarios. Nurses will learn what actions they can take to protect their patients, how to respond safely and effectively, and what local resources are available throughout South Texas. Our goal is to ensure that, as these nurses enter the healthcare field, they feel prepared and empowered to take the lead in identifying and supporting vulnerable individuals.
