TAMIU Rec Sports Group Fitness offers a wide selection of fitness classes for an array of fitness levels. Whether you're an experienced fitness enthusiast or a beginner, our fun and energetic team of instructors will help you in your fitness journey. All fitness classes, except for specialty classes, are FREE for Rec Sports members; all students are members.

Class Description

Belly, Butts, and Thighs

Belly Butts, and Thighs is a beginner friendly class. This one-hour class includes a warmup, a muscle activation focused conditioning portion, and cool down. This class is centered on lower body and core strength and endurance.


Dance Fitness

Dance fitness is a medium-high energy cardio class. This class includes dance choreography to provide a complete and entertaining cardiovascular workout. This fitness class makes cardio fun and gives a club-like environment without leaving the fitness room. The primary goal is to burn calories, including hip-hop movements that tone your arms, legs, and core. It gives a satisfying practice that builds confidence in your dance moves.


Flo ride

Flo ride is a cycling class with a spin of choreography blended into it. This cardio class will keep your heart rate up while still providing a challenge for your legs.

 


HIIT 

HIIT is high-intensity interval training that is focused around a Tabata format. The class is a full body workout and targets different muscle groups through interval. This class focuses on bodyweight exercises but if you are looking for a challenge equipment is available. This class offers different variations of exercises for different fitness levels. Please make sure to bring water, and a towel!


Muscle Pump

Muscle pump is a beginner friendly class which provides varying levels of difficulty for each exercise. Muscle Pump is a muscular endurance class that involves high repetitions and light weights. This class emphasizes quality of movement over quantity. This is to learn proper technique and maximizing effort efficiently.


Outdoor Boot Camp 

Outdoor Boot Camp is a fast-paced class that is a mix of strength, aerobic training, and HIIT. This class will challenge by using multi-joint movements to keep your whole body working and keep you moving. This class is designed to push you and keep you interested. Join us! 


 Pop PilatesⓇ Express

Pop PilatesⓇ is a Pilates-inspired workout done on the mat that flows to the beat of the music. It is a combination of ab-chiseling, muscle toning, core-defining moves that also work your flexibility, and there’s cardio too! No muscle is left untouched, and you will leave on an endorphin high! See you on the mat!


Spinning and Sculpting

Spinning and Sculpting (SAS) is a fusion class where we combine cycling and weightlifting. SAS is split in two portions. Starting with a 30 min heart pumping cycling portion and finishing with a 20 min weightlifting circuit. This is optimizing your time and workout experience by giving you the best of both worlds.


Step Express

Work out to your favorite songs in this high intensity cardio class. The "step" is a 5 - 12 in tall platform that is included in this 30-minute choreographed workout. This class is a full body experience using little equipment and little impact on your joints, but all has of the benefits of cardio. Options Are available for every fitness level so come join in on this heart pumping experience.


Stretch Flo

Stretch Flo is a class focused on muscle recovery from soreness or tightness. Using foam rollers, we are better able to stimulate blood flow to the muscles to achieve a quicker recovery. Stretches and breathing techniques are also incorporated to help with tightness from working out or everyday life.


 Yoga  

In this class we will we go through gentle flows to build strength, balance, and flexibility. This class will focus on syncing breath and movement. You can expect to explore different kinds of breath work to increase awareness and mindfulness of the breath and body. Come and destress with supported meditation throughout our 15 min savasana where will quiet the mind and relax.  


Yoga Express

In this beginner friendly class, you will be learning poses for balance, flexibility, and power. This class will help center yourself, find a new awareness to your movements and help you relax from your stressful day. Destress with this class 5-minute meditation at the end of each class. Join us!

The Personal Training Program aims to help participants develop healthy habits through exercise by providing educational seminars, Small Group Training, and Personal training to our TAMIU community.

The Personal Training program is excited to bring you  Personal Training. Make the most out of 2022 and meet your fitness goals by gaining access to personal training staff, personalized workouts, access to fitness equipment and more! You can choose to have a personal one-on-one session or invite your friends to train with you. TAMIU Rec Sports Outdoor Adventures offers several activities such as biking, hiking, and other outdoor educational seminars. No bike? No problem. Bikes are available for rent to students and staff attending group rides. All standard group bike rides and activities are except for specialty programs, are FREE for Rec Sports members; all enroleld TAMIU students are members.
