Policies and Procedures

The following policies and procedures may not cover every situation that may occur within the Tennis Complex.

Member Services

Assumption of Risk

The participant understands that participation in recreational activities involves certain inherent risks of personal injury. The use of equipment, facilities, online content, and the premises of Texas A&M International University by persons participating in recreational activities shall constitute acceptance of that risk regardless of the nature of the injury. The participant must agree that the University, its officers, employees and agents shall not be liable for any injury, loss or damage sustained or suffered by persons participating in online content or recreational activities sponsored by the University, whether caused directly or indirectly by the negligence or fault of Texas A&M International University, the Department of Recreational Sports, its officers, employees or agents. The participant must understand further that Texas A&M International University does not carry insurance covering individuals utilizing online content or using recreation facilities, and that individuals not having health coverage are strongly advised to acquire health insurance before exposing themselves to possible injury.

  1. The Tennis Complex strives to conduct all activities in the most prudent manner possible. However, due to inherent risk of injury in any activity, it is the responsibility of each participant to be aware that there are some assumed risks involved in participation. All participants are strongly urged to have a yearly medical examination and to carry medical insurance coverage. TAMIU and its staff are not responsible for injuries, including death.
  2. Participants must enter the Center through the main entrance. The use of any other exterior door is prohibited and will activate an alarm system. Individuals having special entry needs may request assistance from the Tennis Complex staff.
  3. Entrance to the Tennis Complex constitutes acceptance of the terms and conditions in effect at the time of use. The presence of a TAMIU OneCard or ID number does not guarantee current enrollment or Tennis Complex membership.
  4. Current TAMIU enrolled students may participate in Rec Sports programs and facilities by presenting their valid TAMIU OneCard or ID number (fees are covered through paid tuition).
  5. Faculty, staff, alumni, university affiliates, and general community members interested reserving a court must purchase a pass to reserve a time slot.
  6. Utilization of the Tennis Complex is a privilege which may be modified or revoked for cause.
  7. Visitors must purchase a Tennis Complex Pass and must complete a “Waiver of Liability” form. All payments must be made online. Cash is not accepted at the facility. Prices are listed below.
    1. Youth Pass (11 years and younger) - $2
    2. Adult Pass (12 years and older) - $3

Court Priority

  1. Scheduled events have priority in the Tennis Complex
  2. TAMIU matches and practices, or City of Laredo tournaments or events
  3. City of Laredo tennis clinics
  4. Leagues
  5. People with reservations

Behavior

  1. TAMIU reserves the right to remove anyone from the facilities or programs if they are acting in a manner that puts themselves or others in danger, or in any way may cause damage to equipment and/or facilities.
  2. Facilities and equipment should be used for their designated purpose.
  3. The Tennis Complex is a place for exercise, fun, and relaxation. Abusive, vulgar, or degrading language or paraphernalia will not be tolerated.
  4. Throwing racquets, damaging property, spitting or foul language is not permitted.
  5. Individuals or groups using the Tennis Complex and/or equipment are responsible for any damage to the Tennis Complex property as a result of negligence or vandalism. Repair costs will be charged to the individual (or in-charge individual for a group) as soon as these costs can be determined. Individuals will be charged the replacement value for the equipment.
  6. Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, hoverboards, drones, and in-line skates are not allowed in the Tennis Complex.
  7. Failure to adhere to Tennis Complex policies may result in loss of Tennis Complex privileges.
  8. Staff members have the authority to request that any patron who violates any of the facility policies, including but not limited to those documented above, leave the facility if the staff member deems it necessary. This may also result in flagging of the patron’s account and consequently the patron being banned from utilizing our facilities for a period of time to be determined based on the severity of the infraction.

Clothing

  1. Appropriate athletic attire, such as T-shirts, shorts, warm-up suits, or aerobic clothing, is required at all times during recreation. (Street clothing is not generally advised during activities as it can be dangerous and confining).
  2. Patrons must wear flat soled non-marking shoes in the Tennis Complex (footwear which marks floor surfaces or is worn inappropriately is not allowed). Cleats are not allowed.
  3. Shirts and shoes are required except in the locker rooms.

Photography and Videography

  1. Customers and guests of the Department of Recreational Sports acknowledge that photographs and video tapes may be taken during activities within our programs and facilities. By participating in our programs or entering our facilities, you allow that reproductions of these photographic materials may be used in promotional activities initiated by the Department of Rec Sports and Texas A&M International University. Persons wishing to take pictures within the Rec Center will need to see Rec Sports administration.
  2. Photography and videography are prohibited in locker rooms, restrooms, changing areas or other areas where privacy is reasonably expected.

Tennis Complex Guidelines

  1. Tobacco, drugs and alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the premises. (Intoxication or the appearance/smell of intoxication, will result in immediate removal from the Tennis Complex and will be reported to appropriate channels.)
  2. Food is not allowed in any activity area unless approved for a special function.
  3. Glass items and gum are prohibited.
  4. Please help us keep the Tennis Complex clean; place trash in proper place.
  5. Throwing or hitting tennis balls against the facility's walls is not allowed.
  6. Climbing on the furniture, fences, or nets is not allowed.
  7. Children ages 17 and under are allowed to use the Tennis Complex, but must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. (Exception: Entities hosting approved special events may be exempt. However, special events must be approved by university administration and/or risk management).
  8. Please direct all concerns and maintenance needs to a member of the Tennis Complex staff.
  9. Folding chairs or any other type of outdoor furniture is not permitted on the courts.
  10. Lost items and injuries must be reported to the Customer Service desk.
  11. Postings for bulletin boards must be approved by Tennis Complex Staff.
  12. For the privacy of our patrons, the use of cell phones as recording devices/cameras in the locker rooms is prohibited.

Lost and Found

  1. TAMIU and Tennis Complex staff will not be responsible for lost, stolen or damaged articles.
  2. Staff members are not permitted to hold equipment, valuables, or bags for members.
  3. Found items should be turned into the Customer Service desk.
  4. Items that are found in the Tennis Complex are recorded on our Lost & Found Form and placed in the Lost and Found box in the Front Desk.
  5. Those claiming an item will be asked to describe and sign for it.
  6. For items of value, such as a wallet, purse or electronic device, University Police will retrieve.
  7. Each week, items will be transported to University Police, the central location for lost and found items on campus.

Visitor, Guest Player and Spectator Policy

  1. Visitors and spectators are defined as non-members on premises to observe tennis matches, lessons, tournaments or other programs.
  2. Guest players are defined as non-members participating in on-site events including tournaments, special events and other on-court activities.
  3. Visitors, guest players and spectators are expected to exercise good behavior when watching matches or participating. Heckling, shouting, line calls, or misbehavior of any type will not be tolerated. Visitors, guest players and spectators exhibiting behavior disrupting the harmony of the facility will be instructed to leave the premises.
  4. Parents, guardians or other supervising adults are expected to refrain from making comments or coaching from the sidelines during classes and/or matches.

Tennis Complex Closures**

  1. At the discretion of the University and the Office of Recreational Sports, the Tennis Complex may close for reasons including, but not limited to:
    1. Court maintenance, facility maintenance, repair, and/or remodeling
    2. Courts are unsuitable for play
    3. Inclement weather
    4. Holidays or
    5. Special or Private Events.

Weather Procedures

  1. When lightning is sighted, or there are other inclement weather issues as defined by the university, anyone present at the Tennis Complex must get off the outdoor courts and seek shelter. Play may resume on the outdoor courts 25 minutes after the last lightning strike, and after the Tennis Complex staff has determined the outdoor courts are ready for play.
  2. Rain checks will be given to players for 59 minutes or less of play. No rain checks are given for 60 minutes or more of play. Rain checks are good for one time only and have an expiration time of one year.

Failure to adhere to Tennis Complex Guidelines may result in loss of Tennis Complex privileges.
