Online course developers may benefit from the following training sessions:
The “Applying the QM Rubric” workshop is QM's flagship workshop on the QM Rubric and the process of using the QM Rubric to review online courses. It is intended for a broad audience, including but not limited to faculty, instructional designers, administrators, and adjunct instructors who wish to understand more about the QM Rubric and process of course review.
Note: A great workshop for learning a framework to follow in developing a new online course.
The “Designing Your Online Course” workshop includes an overview of the QM Rubric and provides a framework to design an online course plan. Participants explore all eight key standards of the QM Rubric, focusing on learning objectives and overall course alignment.
Note: A great workshop for hybrid course developers.
The “Designing Your Blended Course” workshop explores the eight General Standards in the QM Rubric and provides a framework to build a blended course. Participants use the QM Rubric to review key blended elements and develop a course development plan.
Note: A great workshop for learning a framework to follow in improving previously developed online courses.
The “Improving Your Online Course” workshop explores the QM Rubric and provides a framework to improve the quality of online and blended courses. Participants use the QM Rubric to review their own courses and develop a course improvement plan.
Note: A great starter workshop for instructors that have not taught online before.
The “Teaching Online – An Introduction to Online Delivery” workshop explores basic components of online course delivery. Participants will be introduced to differences between traditional face-to-face learning and online learning, the instructor’s role in the online classroom, the importance of getting (and keeping) students engaged, and methods of facilitating online discussions using the discussion board.
Potential peer reviewers must take the following training sessions:
(See above for description.)
The APPQMR is the pre-requisite for the Peer Reviewer Course, which is the required course to become a QM Peer Reviewer.
The Peer Reviewer Course is designed to prepare experienced online faculty to become Quality Matters Certified Peer Reviewers. The Peer Reviewer Course includes a review of Quality Matters, practice critiquing and writing helpful recommendations, and a Practice Review in which the participants are asked to review specific standards in an online course using a simulated online rubric tool. Participants should expect to spend at least 8-10 hours per week completing the required activities.
Upon successful completion of this course, eligible participants must complete and submit an Application as well as a Memo of Understanding in order to become a QM Certified Peer Reviewer. QM Certified Peer Reviewers are eligible to serve on both QM-managed and Subscriber-managed course reviews.
