Reading Nature in American Literature.

Three semester hours.

This seminar explores the changing perception of the American environment/s in literature and related arts, and the ideologies underlying such perception. Utilizing the theoretical tools of Ecocriticism, the course approaches the ways that humans have interacted with the environment in the United States and the cultural responses to such interactions. The course can be organized historically or thematically. Prerequisites: Sophomore Survey of Literature or consent by the instructor. The seminar can be retaken if the topic changes.
