HIST 3381

Sport and US History

Three semester hours.

This course frames the development of nineteenth and twentieth century American society and culture in the context of sport. Topics include the socio-economic origins of such sports as baseball, boxing, and football, labor demands and the influence of money in US sport, the conflicts over racial prejudice, exclusion, and integration, and the issues of gender roles and athletics. Prerequisite HIST 1301 and 1302.
