2026 APEX Symposium
The School of Engineering at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) invites the campus and Laredo community to attend the 2026 APEX Symposium (Advanced Projects for Engineering eXcellence), on April 24 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at the Senator Judith Zaffirini Success Center (ZSC) 101.
What is the APEX Symposium?
The APEX Symposium is an annual event held in a research poster-style format to highlight the innovative work of TAMIU's graduating engineering students. The symposium offers attendees an opportunity to engage directly with the next generation of engineers as they present projects developed through their Senior Design experience.
At the heart of APEX is Senior Design, a two-course, academic-year-long sequence that represents one of the most significant curricular components of an engineering program. Serving as a defining milestone for graduating seniors, Senior Design challenges students to integrate and apply the full breadth of their engineering education to solve complex, real-world problems.

What to Expect at the 2026 Symposium
This year’s APEX Symposium will feature 26 Senior Design teams, representing 120 students across TAMIU’s Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering programs.
From the frontiers of NASA robotics to the critical preservation of the Rio Grande Basin, APEX offers a bold glimpse into a future shaped by student innovation.
Featured projects include:
- Autonomous drones for search and rescue
- Artificial intelligence systems that enhance spatial awareness for the visually impaired
- Carbon storage models aimed at promoting sustainability
- Humanoid robots capable of navigating complex environments
- Machine learning tools designed to analyze and respond to stock market volatility
- and more!
Open to the Community
The APEX Symposium is open to the TAMIU and Laredo community. Attendees are encouraged to interact with student presenters and explore the wide range of engineering innovations on display.
The event will also feature raffles with prizes. To qualify for raffle participation, attendees must submit a brief reflection on three posters they visit during the event. Reflection sheets will be provided at the symposium.
