Systems Engineering Program Mission, Program Educational Objectives, Student Outcomes and Industry Board

Program Mission:

The Systems Engineering program equips graduates with knowledge, skills, and expertise, to fully participate in a progressive society and competitive global environment. The program is delivered in an intellectually stimulating atmosphere leading to the development of an ethical professional capable of adapting to a constantly evolving world, as well as communicating and collaborating with peers for the betterment of society. The curriculum prepares students to work in the broad field of Systems Engineering, and provides them with solid foundations to continue graduate school in a wide scope of disciplines. 

Program Educational Objectives:

Within three to five years of obtaining a bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering at TAMIU, graduates are expected to achieve one or more of the following milestones:

  • Demonstrate success in systems engineering or related careers.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serve society through involvement with community or engineering organizations.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to life-long learning via advanced studies, professional development training, or engineering certification.

Student Outcomes:

By the time of graduation, students in the TAMIU’s Systems Engineering program will have:

  1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
  4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
  5. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
  6. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
  7. An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
