Graduate Financial Assistance
Funding Opportunities at TAMIU
Graduate Financial Assistance - Available for students pursuing a Master's or Doctoral degree.
Submit a completed Graduate Financial Assistance Application and meet all eligibility requirements by April 1st.
Assistantship - On-campus part-time work, 20 hours per week, 9-month term (Fall & Spring). Does NOT pay for tuition and fees.
*Master's Level-Graduate Assistantship awards up to $15,000 for a 9-month term (Fall & Spring).
*Doctoral Level-Graduate Assistantship awards up to $18,000 for a 9-month term (Fall & Spring).
Assistantship Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a fully admitted graduate student who is working towards a master's or doctoral degree.
- Must maintain a good academic standing with a minimum overall GPA of 3.250.
- Must enroll in 9 graduate hours each semester (Fall and Spring).
Fellowship - On-campus part-time work, 10 hours per week. Does NOT pay for tuition and fees.
*Master's Level-Fellowship awards up to $9,000 per academic year ($3,000 Fall, $3,000 Spring, and $3,000 Summer).
*Doctoral Level-Fellowship awards up to $12,000 per academic year ($4,000 Fall, $4,000 Spring, and $4,000 Summer).

- Must be a fully admitted graduate student who is working towards a master's or doctoral degree.
- Must maintain a good academic standing with a minimum overall GPA of 3.250.
- Must enroll in 6 graduate hours each semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer).
Scholarship
*Master's Level Scholarship- Awards up to $3,000 per academic year ($1,000 Fall, $1,000 Spring, and $1,000 Summer).
*Doctoral Level Scholarship- Awards up to $4,500 per academic year ($1,500 Fall, $1,500 Spring, and $1,500 Summer).
Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a fully admitted graduate student who is working towards a master's or doctoral degree.
- Must maintain a good academic standing with a minimum overall GPA of 3.500.
- Must enroll in 6 graduate hours each semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer).
Lamar Bruni Vergara External Scholarship - is available to TAMIU alumni who are Webb County residents and who are pursuing a graduate or professional degree that TAMIU does not offer.
LBV External Scholarship Application
LBV External Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:
- Must submit a complete LBV External scholarship application and meet all eligibility requirements by July 1st.
- Must submit a letter of acceptance into a graduate or professional degree program.
- Must submit a copy of unofficial transcripts, including academic standing, cumulative GPA, and registration.
TAMIU Graduate Student Travel Reimbursement
Available for enrolled graduate students who are planning to actively participate in a conference/meeting for professional development related to their academic pursuits at TAMIU. Must submit a complete Travel - Organization Travel Form, Travel - Individual Waiver Form through TAMIU Presence, and meet all TAMIU student travel requirements before traveling.
Student Travel Reimbursement Requirements:
- The TAMIU Presence travel form and travel waiver form must be submitted at least two weeks prior to departure.
- Must provide proof of conference participation (acceptance letter, invitation, registration receipt, and/or written verification from a TAMIU faculty advisor.
- Submit all receipts (detailed/itemized) within a week of arrival to Graduate School ZSC 223 or emailed to vmorales@tamiu.edu.
Other Funding Opportunities
Aldo Tantagelo Scholarship - Available for graduate students pursuing a degree in Public Administration. The application is available online.
Business Fellowship - The A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business is making available Fellowship grants to qualified students pursuing a Master’s degree from the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business: Master of Business Administration (MBA); Master of Science-Information Systems (MS-IS); and Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAcc). The duration of each Fellowship is for one consecutive year.
Dr. Jerry Thompson Graduate Student Travel Fund - Available to students enrolled in the Master of Arts in History and Political Thought program at TAMIU. Funding can only be used for research-related travel expenses. The amount varies depending on the student's travel needs. The application is available online.
Henry Cuellar Scholarship - Available for graduate students pursuing a degree in History and Political Thought. The application is available online.
MPA Alumni Association Scholarship - Available for graduate students pursuing a degree in Public Administration. The application is available online.
