Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) Office of Continuing Education offers nearly 400 distinct online courses for those wishing to learn a new skill for enrichment, earn professional certificates or GED high school equivalency.

Susan Foster, TAMIU director of Continuing Education, said that while all face to face courses have been cancelled until further notice in light of COVID-19 guidance, TAMIU Continuing Education online courses provide various opportunities for people of all ages who wish to enhance their knowledge or learn a new skillset.

Knowledge areas included in online offerings are Academic Studies, Arts and Design, Business, Management and Accounting, Career Online High School, Criminal Justice, Construction and Skilled Trades, Health and Fitness, Healthcare, Hospitality, Information Technology, Software and Web Development, Language, Legal Studies, Teacher Professional Development, and Writing.

A full list of available Continuing Education online courses and registration information is here:

New to the list of online courses are Legal Nurse Consultant Training and Medical Professional Legal Consultant Training, Foster said.

“As an appreciation to our community heroes – the medical professional working on the front line, for a limited time, we are offering discounts for the Legal Nurse Consultant Training and Medical Professional Legal Consultant Training courses,” Foster said.

Due to ever changing workforce needs, Continuing Education certificates provide an optimal solution for professionals who are searching for ways to stand out from other qualified candidates when applying for a job, Foster said.

“Acquiring a new professional certificate, knowledge and skillset through online courses helps a job candidate prove to his or her potential employer that he or she can add value to their business in addition to conveying confidence during the interview process,” Foster said, “The fact that a candidate took the time to enroll in an online education course also demonstrates to the employer that they have the desire to learn and continue improving themselves.”

Course participants do not have to be enrolled in TAMIU academic courses to sign up, Foster said.

“Certificate courses are for those who desire to improve their job potential and a Certificate course is job-specific and usually does not require any prerequisites,” she explained.

Some of the enrichment courses are also offered in Spanish, Foster said.

“For example, we offer a Floral Design  as well as an Event and Wedding Planning course in Spanish,” Foster said, “We are excited to bring these eLearning opportunities to our community…and the best part is that a learner can complete these courses from the comfort of their home or wherever they are.”

The University’s dedicated COVID-19 website is updated regularly and includes information on office schedules and services, an expansive FAQ, quick links, student resources, official information resources and much more.
