Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and The Outlet Shoppes at Laredo will observe United Nations Day with a book giveaway presented by the TAMIU College of Education’s students and alumni organization, The Professional Opportunities Supporting Scholarly Engagement (POSSE).

The event, which aims to create change throughout the local and global community, takes place at The Outlet Shoppes at Laredo, located on 1600 Water St.,  Saturday, October 24 from 1:30 p.m. until the books are gone on the lower level next to Old Navy.

POSSE Learning Ambassadors will distribute hundreds of books ranging from textbooks, storybooks, reference books, literature, history, and more for both children and adults. Social distancing and masks will be required to participate.

POSSE Learning Ambassadors will also provide children’s treat bags of learning materials the following Saturday, for Halloween, on October 31.

“The POSSE Learning Ambassadors are excited to give away books in Honor of United Nations Day. This provides the perfect opportunity to support the U.N.’s commitment to lifelong learning for all,” said Dr. Tonya Huber, TAMIU professor of Education and POSSE founder.

United Nations Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.
