Aging societies and growing inequality are topics at the center of the next Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) IBC Bank and Commerce Bank 2021-2022 Keynote Speaker Series virtual lecture Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. via Webex.

Dr. Manoj Pradhan, founder of Talking Heads Macroeconomics, an independent research firm, and co-author of “The Great Demographic Reversal,” will discuss the “demographic sweet spot” of the past three decades created by the integration of China’s massive labor force and the entry of baby boomers into the workforce.

During his talk, “The Great Demographic Reversal,” Pradhan asserts that while economic growth remained steady through these years, asset prices inflated rapidly and now exacts a social toll on our world.

As a result, the aging world will see inflation and interest rates rise, thus producing a very difficult environment for central banks and financial markets, explained Pradhan. While productivity and wages are expected to rise modestly, Pradhan reiterates that the adverse effects of the great demographic reversal will likely be felt on a worldwide scale.

The virtual lecture, presented via Webex, will begin at 3 p.m. CST. To register, participants can search for Webex Event #2465 125 8822, or visit https://go.tamiu.edu/pradhan.

In addition to the virtual lecture, a live viewing will be hosted at TAMIU’s Student Center Ballroom.

The TAMIU A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business, and the Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade present the lecture as part of a series sponsored by IBC Bank and Commerce Bank.

The virtual lecture is free and open to the public.

Recently, Pradhan was a managing director at Morgan Stanley, where he led the Global Economics team. Previously he served as a faculty member at George Washington University and the State University of New York. He earned a Ph.D. in Economics at George Washington University and a master’s degree in Finance from the London Business School.
