IME-BECAS Program Awards 14 Scholarships to TAMIU Students

Now in its 12th year, the Consulate General of México and Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) have reaffirmed their continued support for the Institute of Mexicans in the Exterior (IME) BECAS Program at TAMIU.
Consul General of México in Laredo Juan Carlos Mendoza Sánchez and TAMIU interim president Juan J. Castillo signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the institutions Friday, Aug. 15 at the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library Colonnade.
This year, a total of $27,000 in scholarship funds were collected for the IME BECAS Program, with additional contributions from GEMCO and the Mexican Cultural Institute. These funds will be matched by TAMIU.Additional funding includes a $5,000 contribution from Ermilo Richer of Richer Agencia Aduanal.
Funding will support 14 University students who will receive scholarships this Fall 2025.
Scholarship recipients include Daniela Aguilera Patiño, Eduardo Arroyo, Delia Cantú, Daniel Cavazos, Aisha Crutchfield, Enrique Fiscal, Jose García, Ernesto Ortega, Thomas Pedraza, Ximena Ríos, Karla Salazar, Jazmin Serna, Daniela Vigil and Juan Villarreal.
The students were joined by family and friends at the ceremony.
Established in 2013, the IME-BECAS Program has awarded a total of $280,940 in scholarship funds between the Consulate, community partners, and TAMIU's matching funds. The Program now supports students from the border area on both sides of the Rio Grande by providing them with additional educational resources.
Each year, the IME-BECAS Program scholarship is made available full-time undergraduate or graduate students with a 2.5 GPA or higher residing in any of the following Texas counties: Dimmit, Webb, Zapata, La Salle; and Jim Hogg or that have a permanent residence in the Mexican states of Nuevo Leon or Tamaulipas.
