“The goal of the Expo was to celebrate and showcase the work of students, faculty, and staff engaging in hands-on learning at TAMIU,” said Cihtlalli G. Pérez, QEP director.

The initiative was part of TAMIU’s expansive 10-year QEP, or Quality Enhancement Plan, which focuses on enhancing student learning as part of an institution-wide effort. The QEP, known as LEARN (Learning Experientially: Active Real-world Navigation), focuses on experiential learning.

“EL means ‘hands-on learning’ and provides students with the opportunity to actively apply their knowledge and skills through reflection activities. EL experiences have long-term benefits since students can transfer their knowledge and skills outside the classroom, including their future careers,” noted Pérez.

In the days leading up to the Expo, @txamiu social media followers also had an opportunity to take part in an owl-themed scavenger hunt celebrating Earnie the Owl, the University’s symbol for the QEP.
