Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), responsible conduct of research is defined as "the practice of scientific investigation with integrity. It involves the awareness and application of established professional norms and ethical principles in the performance of all activities related to scientific research."

Beginning January 4th, 2010, TAMIU formalized Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training in accordance with the new Federal Research Guidelines effective January 2010.

TAMIU requires all faculty, students, and staff working on externally sponsored research to complete the on-line CITI Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) training course and/or a minimum of 8 hours of training (NIH funded research must do face-to-face training) when required by funding agency, during the first semester individual joins the project.

In addition, personnel may have additional required training(s) to complete prior to being added to research protocols requiring oversight by Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) or Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), All faculty, staff and students must also follow the applicable Export Control (EC) guidelines.
