Issues in Disability Throughout the Lifespan

Three semester hours.

This course provides an introduction to the culture of disability across the lifespan. The impact of disabilities on an individual across the lifespan will be explored, and the unique culture that is created by having a disability will be addressed. Examines characteristics of children with major biological risk conditions and disabilities, birth-six, with a focus on the impact of these conditions on development; addresses elementary years of the student and impact on the student’s family; and addresses career development and employment of individuals with disabilities. Attention will be placed on determining job options, job development, self-determination and person-centered planning.
