English Placement Test (EPT)

This test is taken by all students for whom English is a second or foreign language. The English Placement Test (EPT), published by the University of Michigan, is designed to determine the level of English proficiency for each student. The EPT (which assesses listening comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension), a writing sample, and an interview are used for placement purposes at the International Language Institute. Students who wish to enroll in an ESL course must first take the English Placement Test. Additionally, students who would like to verify their English level may also take the test.
To take the English Placement Test, students must call the ILI office at 956.326.2136 to schedule their exam. The cost of the exam is $35. Please contact the department for more information.
