For over 25 years, the International Language Institute (ILI) has offered high-quality English instruction. The ILI offers a dynamic language program that includes English as a Second Language (ESL). Our courses are intended for the serious student who wants to learn a target language within a short period of time. All instructors have vast experience in teaching ESL or their respective languages and are unquestionably dedicated to the students’ learning.
About our English as a Second Language (ESL) Program
Our ESL program is the most intensive and structured of all the course offerings. It is a program designed to meet the needs of individuals interested in preparing for academic coursework in the United States and abroad.
Our program consists of:
- 4 levels of English language instruction
- Level 3 (intermediate level) to level 6 (advanced level)
- A placement test is required for students to be placed in the appropriate level before registration.
- Two courses per level
- Listening/Speaking/Grammar
- Reading/Writing
- Courses are offered in 7-week sessions year-round
- Spring I (January – March)
- Spring II (March – May)
- Summer (May – July)
- Fall I (August – October)
- Fall II (October – December)
TOEFL Waiver
Upon completing Level 6 at ILI and achieving a grade of B or higher, students may be eligible for a TOEFL waiver, which is recognized for admission to select TAMIU degree programs only (and is not recognized by other institutions). The TOEFL waiver remains valid for one year following the completion of Level 6 at the ILI.
