As part of Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) commitment to a full, on-campus experience this Fall 2021, incoming and returning students will have a chance to take part in a slew of activities, all culminating in an exciting fireworks display.

Organized through the Office of Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement, TAMIU’s annual Welcome Week activities are scheduled Monday, Aug. 23 – Friday, Aug. 27.

Enrolled students can RSVP to an event or to access virtual activities, visit Trailblazers at https://tamiu.campuslabs.com/engage/.

Welcome Week is an annual week-long program of activities aimed at helping students transition to University life. All events are free and open to currently enrolled students.

This year’s celebration is particularly special as it ends with an on-campus fireworks display. The “Dusty’s Lights Fireworks Extravaganza” happens Friday, Aug. 27 at 9 p.m. at the Academic Innovation Center parking lot.

TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz said the initiative is a bold way to welcome students back to campus.

“It’s a great way to kick off the Fall 2021 semester and culminates our Welcome Week activities here.  With students back on campus as part of our full, vibrant Fall experience, they’ve navigated their way to classes, meeting their faculty and fellow students -- and will be getting to safely know our 300-acre campus.

“We wanted to further heighten that exploration of our academic and co-curricular offerings with a new event that makes our welcome safe, shared and visible. My hope is that in seeing that welcome fill the sky, it will also fill students with the hope of a brighter future that we will share together,” he explained.

While some events are happening virtually, most Welcome Week activities occur on campus in several locations including the Academic Innovation Center (AIC), the Student Center (STC) and the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center (ZSC).

Both indoor and outdoor Welcome Week activities will adhere to social distancing protocols. The use of face coverings is highly recommended when attending in-person events.
