An abundance of color will fill the skies at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) during its planned celebration of Holi, a festival of colors, happening Wednesday, March 8, from 3 – 4 p.m. in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center Green.

The celebration, hosted through the Office of International Engagement in tandem with TAMIU’s student-led Campus Activities Board, commemorates the major festival in India held during the 12th month of Phalguna in the lunar Hindu calendar on the full-moon day.

Holi symbolizes the celebration of spring, friendship, and family. During the festival, participants splash each other in vibrant colored powder or colored water. The occasion commemorates individuals forgetting old grievances while meeting others warmly and in high spirits, noted Yamel Muzquiz, program director for the Office of International Engagement.

“We invite our campus community to come dance to the beats of Holi songs and popular music and to participate in this vibrant event,” said Muzquiz.

Individuals are encouraged to wear white T-shirts. Dedicated outdoor clean-up basins will be made available after the event.
