Bonjour, Dustdevils!

This summer, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) students traveled to France for a study abroad opportunity.

Dr. Daniel De La Miyar, instructional assistant professor at University College, led the student cohort through the course “Public Relations and Special Issues in Culture,” which focused on public relations techniques and methods while emphasizing media insight as perceived through an international perspective.

During their month-long stay, students visited local French companies, museums, and landmarks during their study abroad.

Dr. De La Miyar highlighted the importance of this dual-approach study abroad experience, where students could fully immerse themselves in French culture through visits to various communication companies while also experiencing everyday interactions in Paris.

“Students learned about cultural differences between the USA and France; additionally, students had a public relations component by integrating methods to get around the city on their own. Our visit to Disneyland Paris discussed Disneyfication and how Western society is reflected in France,” De La Miyar explained.

University students interested in studying abroad should contact the Office of International Engagement via email at international@tamiu.edu, call 956.326.2282 or visit offices in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center, room 206.
