Proyecto Amigo

Proyecto Amigo is dedicated to supporting TAMIU undergraduate students achieve success at TAMIU and beyond. The goal of the program is to increase TAMIU's undergraduate retention and graduation rates by promoting community and belonging through coaching and mentorship.

Through Proyecto Amigo, students will be part of the Mentoring Cohort, have access to Mentors, Career Coaching Workshops, Career Coaching 1-1 Meetings, Conference Opportunity, Spring Learn Expo Presentation, and Scholarships!

We invite you to our upcoming Proyecto Amigo meetings:

Proyecto Amigo "Check In": Thursday, August 14 from 4 - 4:40 p.m. via Zoom

Proyecto Amigo Kick Off!: Fridady, September 5 from 4 - 5 p.m. in STC 120

Proyecto Amigo Orientation: Friday, September 12 from 5 - 8 p.m. in STC 120

Session topics can include:

  • What resources are available on campus
  • How to manage academics and personal time
  • Searching and applying for scholarships
  • Finding experiences to add to your resume: ex. on-campus jobs, volunteering, internships
  • Connecting with professionals in your major
  • Preparing for graduate school (ex., timelines, essays, interviews)
  • Making plans for after graduation

How to Earn Points

Points can be earned through Proyecto Amigo & TAMIU Resources and Events.

  • Proyecto Amigo Career Coaching Workshop: 3 points per workshop
  • Proyecto Amigo Mentoring Cohort Meeting: 3 points per meeting
  • Career Services: Attend a meeting or event: 2 points per meeting/event
  • TAMIU Workshops: (Example: ACE, Small Business Center, SOLE Talks, Coffee House Wednesday): 2 points per workshop
  • Student Success Coaching Meetings with Program Manager: 1 point per meeting
  • Group Mentor Meeting with Student Mentor: 1 point per meeting
  • Individual Mentor Meeting with Student Mentor: 1 point per meeting
  • Mentor Meeting with Alumni or Community Mentor: 1 point per meeting
  • Study Hours at the Office of Outreach: 1 point per meeting
  • Tutoring with ACE or TRIO: 1 point per meeting
  • Attending Professor’s Office Hours: In Person or Virtually: 1 point per meeting
  • TAMIU Events: (Example: Welcome Week, It’s on Us Week, Wicked Wellness Week): 1 point per event
  • Volunteer at TAMIU or outside of TAMIU: 1 point per volunteer hour (10 points max)
  • Experiential Opportunities: Completing an internship this semester, research with a professor, study abroad, leading a student organization or event (10 points max)
  • Drop–ins: 0.5 point per meeting

By attending a Career Coaching Workshop, Proyecto Amigo students will receive an Aramark Food Voucher.
