Proyecto Amigo

TAMIU Projecto Amigo

Proyecto Amigo is dedicated to supporting TAMIU undergraduate students achieve success at TAMIU and beyond. The goal of the program is to increase TAMIU's undergraduate retention and graduation rates by promoting community and belonging through coaching and mentorship.

Through Proyecto Amigo, students will be part of the Mentoring Cohort, have access to Mentors, Career Coaching Workshops, Career Coaching 1-1 Meetings, Conference Opportunities, Fall and Spring Learn Expo Presentations, and Scholarships!

Fall 2026 Proyecto Amigo Meetings:

Wednesday, Aug. 19 from 4:00 - 4:50 p.m. : Zoom Meeting

Friday, Sep. 4 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. : Proyecto Amigo Workshop. (Orientation & Las Promesas Organization Guest Speaker). 

Monday, Sep. 21 from 12:10-12:50 or 1:00-1:40 p.m. : Proyecto Amigo Workshop with LBJ students at TAMIU. You may select one of these times. 

Tuesday, Sep. 22 from 12:10-12:50 or 1:00-1:40 p.m. : Proyecto Amigo Workshop with LBJ students at TAMIU. You may select one of these times. 

Friday, Sep. 25 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. : Proyecto Amigo Workshop on SMART Goals

Friday, Oct. 9 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. : Proyecto Amigo Workshop at Las Promesas 

Friday, Oct. 23 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. : Proyecto Amigo Workshop with Las Promesas at TAMIU

Friday, Nov. 6 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. : Proyecto Amigo Workshop on Time Management 

Friday, Nov. 13 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. : Proyecto Amigo Workshop Celebration & Presentations

How to Earn Points

Points can be earned through Proyecto Amigo & TAMIU Resources and Events.

  • Proyecto Amigo Workshop: 100 points per workshop
  • TAMIU Workshops: (Example: ACE, Small Business Center, SOLE Talks, Coffee House Wednesday): 100 points per workshop
  • Individual Mentor Meeting with Student Mentor: 25 points per meeting
  • Individual Mentor Meeting with Proyecto Amigo Program Manager: 25 points per meeting
  • Individual Mentor Meeting with Alumni or Community Mentor: 25 points per meeting
  • Study Hours at the Office of Outreach: 10 points per visit
  • Tutoring with ACE or TRIO: 10 points per visit
  • Attending Professor’s Office Hours: In Person or Virtually: 10 points per meeting
  • TAMIU Events: (Example: Welcome Week, It’s on Us Week, Wicked Wellness Week): 50 points per event
  • Volunteer at TAMIU or outside of TAMIU: 10 points per volunteer hour (100 points max)
  • Experiential Opportunities: Completing an internship this semester, research with a professor, study abroad, or student organization officer this semester: 100 points
  • Drop–ins: 5 points per visit

Session topics can include:

  • What resources are available on campus
  • How to manage academics and personal time
  • Searching and applying for scholarships
  • Finding experiences to add to your resume: ex. on-campus jobs, volunteering, internships
  • Connecting with professionals in your major
  • Preparing for graduate school (ex., timelines, essays, interviews)
  • Making plans for after graduation
