Recreational Sports Title IX Guidelines

Recreational Sports is committed to our participants’ enjoyment, safety, and well-being. To this end, the department will not tolerate, verbally abusive language, fighting or threats of physical violence, or harassment of any participants or staff.

    1. TAMIU does not discriminate or permit harassment against any individual on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, sexual orientation or gender identity in admissions, educational programs, or employment. The following behavior will not be tolerated at Recreational Sports.
      • Hateful or derogatory language of any kind whether direct or indirect, is not permitted.
      • Catcalling, crude, sexually charged language, whether direct or indirect, is not permitted.
      • Recording or taking pictures in the locker room is strictly prohibited.
      • Recording or taking pictures of other individuals anywhere in the facility without their consent is strictly prohibited.
      • Excessive public display of affection is not permitted.
      • Unwelcome romantic advances are strictly prohibited.
    2. If you see something, say something. At TAMIU, creating and maintaining a respectful and safe campus community is a priority. For this, we encourage students, faculty, staff and community friends to report any acts which diminish our University life experience.
    3. If you or someone you know is experiencing harassment in our Rec Sports facility, please contact our Recreational Sports Professional Staff. All complaints will be reported to the appropriate department.
    4. The University is committed to protecting the privacy of all individuals involved in a report. All complaints are confidential, and retaliation of any kind is prohibited.
Staff members have the authority to request that any patron who violates any of the facility policies, including but not limited to, those documented above, leave the facility if the staff member deems it necessary. This may also result in flagging of the patron’s account and consequently the patron being banned from utilizing our facilities for a period to be determined based on the severity of the infraction.
